I’m a student of French and German in the UK, and as part of my degree I have to spend a semester in a country of each of these languages. The aim of this is to become fluent, as well as to experience the culture first-hand.

I am studying in Liège, Belgium from September 2011 (for French), and then in February 2012 I’m going to Linz, Austria, to work as a teaching assistant in two high schools (for German). The purpose of this blog is to record the ups and downs on studying and working abroad, as well as gather some travel tips, etc.

‘Let’s Get Out Of This Country’ is a song by Camera Obscura. Ausland is German for ‘foreign country’, and année is French for ‘year’.
